Change to on-leave request deadline

As previously shared at the Spring GEMS/GPA forum, GEMS sought feedback on the current deadline structure for requesting and approving on-leave status. Thank you so many of you who took our quick survey to understand how this change may impact your students. A significant majority of GPA who took the survey let us know that separating the student request deadline from the departmental approval deadline would help clarify the process and reduce last minute submissions that may miss the final end of the quarter deadline. We received 49 responses; 80% were in favor of the change, 16% were not sure and 4% we not in favor.

Starting Autumn 2025, the deadline for students to request on-leave status will be one week before the end of the quarter. That will give departments time to approve the request and students time to pay the on-leave fee after the department has recommended approval. We will send reminders with specific dates to GPAs and students as autumn quarter approaches.
